The concept is that there are 3 levels of self-awareness, and the first level is the level you have when you are unconscious. The second level is the level you have when you are not paying attention. The third level is the level you have when you are paying attention.
That’s it in a nutshell. The first level is what you usually think of as being aware, and when the second level is being aware, you usually think of being aware as being awake. When you are paying attention, you think of being aware as being asleep. In reality, though, there are many levels of self-awareness. And while it’s true that you are usually aware in the second level, you may be in the third level.
When you are a sleepwalker, you are unaware of your surroundings. This might be because you are in a deep sleep, or perhaps because you have no sensory input. In this case, you are still aware of your surroundings though.
Sleepwalking is a particularly difficult state to be in because of the absence of sensory input. To be sure, there is much that we can learn from being asleep. One thing we can learn, for example, is that there is a certain sort of familiarity that one develops between being in the deep sleep state and being awake. When you go to sleep, your body is in a state of deep relaxation. This is a time of deep relaxation which allows you to be fully present.
In the real world, there are always external events that trigger your body to wake up. Your brain is constantly monitoring and adjusting your internal states to get the best fit between the two. However, in the Sleepwalking state, there are no external events that trigger your body to wake up. You may fall asleep and not remember anything, or not remember that you fell asleep. This is because your body is in the deep state of relaxation, or deep sleep, even while awake.
