Rather than suppressing our thoughts, we are able to transform them into thoughts of love rather than hate, for example.
I tend to take it to mean that meditation is the act of thinking about a topic, or the act of thinking about a topic at all. In other words, we can practice meditation, but we can’t really think about it. That is a concept that is very different from the idea that you can’t think about something. For example, if you can’t think about something, you don’t want to think about it.
I think this idea might have originated from the ancient Indians. In India you could get very good at meditation if you learned to focus on a single thought for a long period of time, or to focus on a single action. It was a way of channeling the mind. The idea of the “no thoughts” state is a very different idea that we often get from the Eastern traditions.

For most people, the single thing they think they are trying to accomplish in their life is the single thing they think their life is about. But as you can see from the definition of “single” above, that single thing can only be one thing at a time. There is no such thing as the “single thing” as an entity.
The concept of having a single action in your life seems very common in life, but it is difficult to accomplish. Many people think they want to have a single thing in their life, but that is not the same as having a single action in your life. For most people, the single thing they want to accomplish is the single thing they think their life is about.
This is where the concept of being a complete and consistent being comes in. For example, an artist paints a canvas that is one color, and he never changes it. He can’t change the canvas itself, but he can change the colors on the canvas. He can change the hue and saturation of the canvas, but he can’t change the color of the canvas. The only way you can change the color of the canvas is by creating a new canvas in its place.
It’s a very simple concept, but I think it has become a bit more complex for artists over the last few decades. Artists have always been able to change themselves, but it’s become harder to stay consistent like that. For most artists though, their primary focus isn’t about consistency, but creativity. That’s why artists are more like engineers or musicians than artists in the traditional sense. They work on their own time, and they only change the way they do things once in a while.
