It’s not just the fact that it takes place on a time-looping island, but also the fact that it plays as a horror story. You play as a lone-wolf Colt Vahn, who lives alone on a time-looping island called Blackreef.
Colt is a character I’ve always liked, and I love that his story is about a character who is an amnesiac. He has no memory of the tragic events of his past. He just has memories of the way he wants to live his life. He has a thirst for the adrenaline rush of battle and the destruction of his enemy. He has a tendency to be reckless and impatient.
I think the thing I love most about this game is that it reminds me of the way I used to play as a kid. I remember playing this game in a computer, and it was so much fun. The fact that this game is so much fun because it takes place on a time loop is just icing on the cake.
For a game that revolves around time loops, it’s nice to not have any annoying dialog. There’s not that obnoxious voice-over “Your mission is to kill him.” or “You’re going to kill this guy, but you can’t because he’s already dead.” These days I might say, “Yeah, he’s dead,” or “I can see his brain, but I’m not sure I want to touch it with my fingers.
The voice acting is definitely on point and the game is a blast to play. One thing to note though is that the voice acting is all in Vietnamese. The game is not an English-only game. If that makes any sense, I apologize. I just can’t help it.
